BIRDS OF TOYKO ALBUM GOES PLATINUM!

Recently, the cover of the Sydney Morning Herald entertainment guide declared … ‘Move Over Powderfinger – Birds Of Tokyo Are The New Face Of Rock.’

With an ARIA Award winning, self-titled album that surpassed platinum sales today, plus a platinum single in Plans and forthcoming appearance on the Big Day Out the claim is not quite as far fetched as it may sound.

At the 2010 ARIA Awards, Birds of Tokyo not only received 6 nominations, but walked away with their first ever ARIA for Best Rock Album. They also delivered one of THE performances of the night; propelling “Plans” higher up the iTunes chart than any other performance on that unforgettable TV show. That single is out now via an exclusive iTunes digital bundle, which includes previously unreleased acoustic recordings of The Saddest Thing I Know and Wild At Heart.

In its 18th week of release ‘Plans’ is still in the top 5 most played songs on Australian radio according to Mediabase and has jumped up to number 13 on today’s ARIA singles chart – the highest Australian artist single.  As of today, the now platinum certified “Birds Of Tokyo” album is back inside the top 10 on iTunes and currently number 15 on this week’s ARIA chart following their Award show performance.

The self titled disc has also attracted huge critical acclaim with four star reviews from nearly every leading publication in the country. It has also been short listed for the prestigious “J Award” … Triple J’s gong for the best local work of the year – with the winner to be announced over coming weeks.

The band’s new killer single, Wild At Heart is the big hands-in-the-air singalong at the album’s core.  There’s a solid pop thread through the song, placing it in the company of similar landmark songs from Split Enz to Midnight Oil, with many radio stations jumping onto the song following the ARIA’s.

‘Wild At Heart’ is available as a digital one track now and will be released as a digital bundle on December 17.

Wild At Heart tracklisting will include:

1.         Wild At Heart

2.         Broken Bones (iTunes Live Sessions)

3.         Wayside (iTunes Live Sessions)

4.         Plans (Acoustic – Nova 93.7)

In addition to appearing on the national tour with Big Day Out the band will be performing on the upcoming festivals plus dates have just been announced for the FREE Optus Sound Scribe regional shows:
