BANGALOW SHOW – POWER OUTAGE UPDATE

Birds of Tokyo wish to apologise to fans after last’s night show in Bangalow was cut slightly short due to a power issue. A source from country energy advised that a Feeder Fault, had affected power to the entire Bangalow area. Fortunately, the band had played all of their set with the exception of two songs prior to the power going out. After receiving advice that power was not going to return before the venue’s 10:00pm curfew, and in the interest of safely exiting patrons whilst battery operated lighting was still available, it was decided the band would not return to the stage. As the show was almost complete at the time of the blackout, no refunds will be offered.

BIRDS OF TOKYO EDGE CLOSER TO THEIR FINAL AUSTRALIAN TOUR FOR 2011

With Birds of Tokyo about to kick off their recently announced Closer tour, presented by Radar Radio, a number of shows are a sell out with other cities about to slap sold out signs across box office windows! In less than four weeks time, the band will commence their twenty-two town tour across Australia to play their last shows for 2011 before heading into the studio for the summer.

Sydney’s Metro Theatre, The Forum in Melbourne, Bunbury’s Prince Of Wales, Coolangatta Hotel Gold Coast and Wollongong University have sold out as fans snapped up tickets to catch Birds play a very special unique show in these intimate size venues. The time is now to get your tickets!

Joining Birds Of Tokyo on the road will be the increasingly buzzworthy punk rockers Boy In A Box (aka Tij Priddle). Boy In A Box have just released their debut album and will join the tour from Newcastle onwards.

Also joining the tour will be Rockhampton locals, Busby Marou, who kick off the first two shows of the tour in Rockhampton and Bundaberg. Then one of the country’s most genuinely exciting new bands,The Medics will kick off the evening for southern Queensland and Northern NSW shows.

The complete dates and venues for Birds Of Tokyo: Closer are as follows and just a reminder that no extra shows will be added to this tour so fans be sure to get your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

Birds of Tokyo are finishing off a monster year with their recently announced Closer Tour. The band will travel to twenty-two towns across the country to play their last shows for 2011 before heading into the studio for the summer.

FINAL NATIONAL TOUR ANNOUNCED FOR 2011: CLOSER

It’s been a monster year for Birds Of Tokyo … an album that’s nearly certified double platinum, multiple APRA Award nominations, a huge showing in Triple J’s Hottest 100 and an ARIA Award for Australia’s Best Rock Album.

Now the Birds are bringing it all to a close with the announcement of their last run of local gigs before heading into the studio for the summer.

Birds Of Tokyo: Closer will take the band full circle. In an unusual move, rather than playing enormo-d0mes they will instead return to the rock clubs in which they cut their teeth over the years prior to the release of their current hit album.

“We’ve been lucky to play lots of really big venues and festivals over the last 12 months”, says the group’s frontman, Ian Kenny. “Those shows have all been fun but we’re kinda missing the gigs we used to do where you can get up close to the audience and really see the whites of their eyes. We figured doing a tour of sweaty clubs would just be a fun way to bring this album to a close.”

Hence the name of the tour … Birds Of Tokyo: Closer.

The band has recently been working on new songs and they are expected to roadtest a few of them for the first time at these upcoming shows. The complete September/October dates and venues for Birds Of Tokyo: Closer can be viewed in the tour dates section. It is important to note that no extra shows will be added to this tour so fans are advised to get in quick.

A special exclusive fanclub ticket pre-sale will be made available on Wednesday 13th July to those who have signed up to the mailing list prior to this date.

A very big hey to y’all,

My how a couple of months can fly by when you get up to good and perhaps the not so good! We played the travelling juggernaut that was the Groovin’ The Moo festivals, battled and lost to sand flies in Broome, challenged political comments on condoms in Darwin, embraced the beauty of the Tivoli, were joined by the masses in water taxis and ferries to Cockatoo Island and celebrated with our fine friends in New Zealand!

Birthday shenanigans were had courtesy of Adam Spark, but there’s no need to chat about turning 25 in the band news column. Mass kudos to you all for sharing these great times with us.
We hope you all had as much fun as we did.
Also, for those of you who missed out on our Debit MasterCard Priceless Music show on Cockatoo Island in Sydney recently, good news… 7 Mate are airing it TONIGHT at 10.30pm with MTV airing it on Sunday 19th June from 8.30pm.

EXCLUSIVE CHARITY AUCTION TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE JAPANESE RED CROSS’S DISASTER RELIEF

Artists and songwriters from across the EMI family are raising funds to help the Red Cross support people affected by last month’s earthquake and tsunami in Japan, through an incredible worldwide auction of personal items and memorabilia.

The charity auction, which will be managed by eBay, features items from some of the world’s biggest stars, including Coldplay, Norah Jones, Katy Perry, Gorillaz, Iron Maiden, the Beach Boys, David Guetta, The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, The Beatles and more.

All funds raised will be used towards the Japanese Red Cross disaster relief efforts to help those affected by the earthquake and tsunami. EMI Group has committed to match all funds raised from the auction up to a maximum of one million euros.

BIRDS OF TOKYO ANNOUNCE SPECIAL ONE-OFF AUCKLAND SHOW & SCORE FIRST NZ GOLD SELLING SINGLE

They’re about to have their first ever Gold certified single in New Zealand with their single ‘Plans’. Now Birds of Tokyo have announced they will be heading back to Auckland to perform a special one-off show at the Powerstation on Thursday 2nd June proudly presented by The Rock.

Birds of Tokyo will be supported by two of New Zealand’s finest acts … platinum selling Midnight Youth who have gained a reputation as a top-performing festival act, alongside current chart toppers Avalanche City making it a jammed packed rock show.

Earlier this year, Birds of Tokyo played a handful of sold out shows in Auckland and Wellington alongside the band’s blistering Big Day Out Auckland.
