BIRDS OF TOKYO CELEBRATE 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF EPONYMOUS SELF-TITLED ALBUM

The self titled album was recorded over two months in Gothenburg, Sweden where it was minus twenty most days with unbelievable snow falls. The conditions actually payed off as we were literally snowed in at times so we worked on the songs day and night. We survived on pizza, the local soup shop and booze… a lot of booze. Cabin fever set in at different times and at one point it got a bit ‘Lord of the Flies’ with heated creative discussions over spilling into shirtless boozy punch ups. Throw in the odd sauna and a trip to the local discotheque and we found the perfect balance of madness and mojo. Unforgettable. Happy Birthday ‘Birds of Tokyo’.

Making the self-titled record was a wild and very cold ride. Here are some moments of us during that period putting the record together from Sydney to Sweden to London to New York. Early 2010. It’s crazy to think how we had NO idea back then that this record would change everything in our lives ☺️ Pics by Kane Hibberd.

‘Never Going Back’ is the final piece that caps off the journey and everything the band went through over the two years while writing Human Design.

It’s a song about acceptance and perseverance. This band has seen and been through so much together in fifteen years it’s kind of hard to quantify… What we’ve learned we try to share, and what we accept is there’s still a lot to learn.

We dug deep and found a bunch of early footage of the band for the video for NGB. It’s a look back on where we came from and a reminder of who we are now.
