‘ANCHOR’ OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO

Turn the lights down friends… We wanted to create a visual for ANCHOR which heightened the sense of this confession / cleansing. We can tend to miss or overlook when people we care about aren’t going too well, as is human nature. This song is about that.

Whether it’s a relationship that’s about to end or a life, we need to recognise this so that we do not lose these people.

We do not need that darkness – so through our collaboration with the hyper-creative Kris Moyes, we found that in the ANCHOR video we absorb that darkness, apologise and promise to be better. We really hope this helps explain who we are, why we are and where we are going.

Take care of each other.

NEW ANCHOR EP OUT TODAY AND TOUR ONSALE NOW

Hello fans of Tokyo!
It is with much excitement that today we reveal our new 4 track EP “Anchor”.
We hope you enjoy this little experiment. There’s going to be some unrecognisable Birds of Tokyo sounds on here. We spent a lot of time looking outwards trying to challenge what inspired us. There’s some hip hop elements that we’ve never explored before. There’s some vocal effects that made Kenny sound like he’s from another galaxy. But it’s all in the name of art and exploration.
There’s always a purpose to it. ” Anchor” is our first single, but given the experimental nature of this EP, it’s not an indicator of material at all. Each song lives on a different world to the other. That’s what makes it interesting. We encourage you try to visualise these worlds when you listen. If you were hoping for more than just an EP don’t despair,  there’s more coming. This is just the beginning *wink. The other good news is that we are gonna do a tour from late May to early June. So right now, we are preparing, planning and pontificating for the shows coming up. We’re going to show you what our EP sounds like live and we may even show you what our future music sounds like.  So come check it out!
With love from Kenny, Sparky, Westy, Glenn and Berney ,
We hope you enjoy!

BIRDS OF TOKYO ANNOUNCE NEW ANCHOR EP AND TOUR

Birds are back!

During 2014 Birds of Tokyo based themselves in America; taking their music overseas for the first time. In between all the U.S. gigs and interviews they wrote and recorded four songs. Four songs about being a long way from home. Four songs about perspective being gained from distance. Four songs about trying to find connection in a strange new world.

Now those four songs are being released on a standalone EP called Anchor, with a view to a new album scheduled for release in 2016.

The Anchor EP will be available this Friday April 24 and the band will head out on the road from late May to support its release, visiting Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney. They’ll also be making a number of festival appearances in the coming months including Darwin’s Bass in the Grass and SOTA in Perth.

Tickets for the Anchor Tour go on sale to members of Birds of Tokyo’s mailing list Wednesday April 22 at 12pm, then to the general public Friday April 24 at 9am.

Dates and venues for the Anchor Tour are listed below. Special guest at all shows will be South African born Melbourne based artist Ecca Vandal, so get down to the venue early.
